Lao, Thai travellers share in charitable expedition to Savannakhet

A group of charitable well-wishers from Savannakhet province and 10 provinces in Thailand recently formed a convoy to travel to Xepon district, with the aim of sampling the area’s scenic beauty and experiencing local culture.

A group of Lao and Thai travellers last week deliver clothes and other supplies to a school in Xepon district, Savannakhet province.

The convoy travelled from February 18-19, with participants bringing clothing, educational materials, sports equipment and other supplies worth more than 200 million kip for distribution to selected groups in Xepon district.
The donated items were handed over to the residents of five villages, two primary schools, and police and military units.
The travellers were welcomed by the Deputy Governor of Savannakhet province, Ms Lingthong Sengtavanh, Head of the province’s Information, Culture and Tourism Department, Mr Phosinoy Kouthilath, and staff from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet.
Ms Lingthong said the joint activity involving groups from Laos and Thailand served to promote tourism and raise awareness of the attractions of Savannakhet and neighbouring provinces in Thailand that form the East-West Economic Corridor.
She praised the group for their charitable work and thanked them for their efforts to spread happiness and help children living in deprived circumstances in rural areas of Xepon district.
The programme was arranged by Savannkhet province’s Information, Culture and Tourism Department and the Fourwinds Savan Club.
