Vientiane Vice Mayor visits clean water supply project

The construction of a clean water supply project for people in Nabong village in Pakngum district and Somsamay village in Xaythany district is now over 60 percent completed.

This figure was revealed by the project developer, Lao Pipe Industrial Technology Sole Company Limited, during the visit of the Vice Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Phoukhong Bannavong.
The General Manager of the Vientiane Water Supply State Enterprise, Mr Khampheuy Vongsakhamphouy, and a delegation also visited the construction site on May 10.
The Director of Lao Pipe Industrial Technology Sole Company Limited, Mr Bounlong Doungmany, and the company’s representatives welcomed the group.
The visit aimed to encourage the construction of the water supply project for residents of Nabong village in Pakngum district and Somsamay village in Xaythany district as well as exchange experiences to make the work more efficient.
Mr Bounlong Doungmany said that the project is worth US$3.3 million and is being implemented under the build-operate-transfer model.
The government provided land to build a water treatment plant and the East Meets West Foundation funded the survey and detailed design of the system with US$25,000. It also provided US$20,000 for the installation of piped water to GESI households and in public areas.
The construction work started in July 2022 and is expected to be completed by September this year.
Earlier this month, the pipe water supply system was put on pilot operations to service some areas of target villages.
When completed the factory will produce up to 3,000 cubic metres of clean water per day and supply across 206 km piped clean water to nearly 21,200 people in over 3,480 families of 15 villages in Pakngum and Xaythany district.
This project is a part of the ongoing social and economic development of Vientiane and aims at providing clean and safe water to more people of the capital.
