Laos, Vietnam extend partnership in public security 

Lao and Vietnamese public security officials are bolstering their partnership in the oversight of civil society, including the management of censuses and issuing identity cards.
Cooperation between the two sides was discussed in Vientiane on April 24, when a delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security visited Laos’ Deputy Minister of Public Security and Director General of the Police Department, Major General Khamking Phouilamanivong.
Major General Khamking welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and said he was confident that cooperation between the two ministries would continue in carrying out censuses and issuing identity cards.

This would enable the creation of a database to record the information collected, which would provide useful facts and figures for future censuses and build a stronger foundation for the strengthening of unity between Laos and Vietnam.
This work would also serve to bolster the two countries’ peacekeeping efforts.
The Vietnamese delegation pledged to provide further assistance to Laos in creating a national database of citizens and issuing modern identity cards.
This work would be jointly undertaken by Laos’ Department of Public Security and the visiting delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.
In other areas of cooperation, this year the two ministries have agreed to continue their cooperation in suppressing the trafficking of drugs.
This will be achieved under a cooperation plan between the two ministries to jointly carry out specialised operations, in the hope of fulfilling targets and seeing fruitful results.
Under this cooperation plan, officials will attempt to identify the locations used by drug producers and traffickers. They will also share in the apprehension of suspects and bringing cases to court for prosecution.
Other areas of cooperation include tracking down and arresting suspected drug traffickers, creating drug-free villages, and other important work.
