Japan’s Autumn Conferment
of Decorations granted to Vice Lao President
The Government of Japan last week announced the recipients of the 2022 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on foreign nationals.
Lao Vice President Mrs Pany Yathotou was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, in recognition of her contributions in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Laos.
The Order is awarded to people who have made distinguished achievements in enhancing bilateral relations. Serving as the President of the National Assembly from 2010-2021, Mrs Pany visited Japan three times during her term of office and hosted Japanese parliamentary delegations to Laos to promote exchanges between the legislatures of the two countries.
In 2012, she signed an agreement with then Japanese Justice Minister Taki who came to Laos to commence cooperation on the compilation of the Lao Civil Code. Mrs Pany approved the adoption of the Lao Civil Code in 2018. She visited Japan in 2015 to attend the “WAW! 2015” Conference, an international symposium on the promotion of women’s advancement.
