Saravan waterfalls offer new visitor attractions
The popular Tad Loc and Tad Hang waterfalls in Saravan province are an enticing prospect for visitors over Lao New Year now that provincial authorities have improved facilities and added new attractions.
An official in charge, Mr Bounchan Choummaly, said provincial authorities had built a bridge leading to the falls across the Xeset River, and visitors can also enjoy tubing on the river. In addition, authorities have arranged for the construction of more than 80 huts for visitors to sit in, as well as a car park and viewpoints.
The two waterfalls are among Saravan’s most popular recreational destinations as they are located amid lush vegetation in a beautiful setting. In addition, provincial authorities are partnering with a local company in a feasibility study on the construction of more visitor facilities at the waterfalls.
The investors plan to add to the falls’ appeal by arranging treks and camping and reopening resorts that were closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The investors will introduce new tourist attractions and provide support for local ethnic groups by setting up tourism-related services that benefit them financially. If the results of the feasibility study are positive, the investors will send a development proposal to provincial authorities, seeking permission to build the planned new visitor facilities.
Tad Loc and Tad Hang waterfalls are located in Vangsaen village, Saravan district, just 31 kilometres from the provincial capital.
In addition to the two waterfalls, provincial authorities are improving facilities at other tourist attractions such as Tham Phouphasouk cave, and upgrading the overall quality of services offered to visitors.
Saravan has a wealth of natural and cultural attractions as well as places of historical interest and visitors will not be disappointed. The province is home to 10 ethnic groups whose colourful way of life can be observed, while there are plenty of local dishes to be sampled and souvenirs to be bought.
The province is renowned for its stunning scenery, with the Tad Lor waterfall being one of the highlights and a jumping off point for further adventures in this remote province. Another must-see is the Kaengkou waterfall, which carries water from the Xedon and Xeset rivers, and is a great spot for a picnic.
The province is also home to Hor Tai Pi Dok, where Buddhist scriptures are stored in the grounds, and which was named a national heritage site last year. Saravan province is located in the south of Laos about 690km from Vientiane by road. It contains the Phou Xieng Thong National Biodiversity Conservation Area, which extends over nearly 1,000 square kilometres in the western part of the province close to the Mekong River.
