Rail operator to provide more services over Lao New Year
The Laos-China Railway Company Limited will add a standard passenger train to services on the section of railway between Vientiane and Boten, in anticipation of increased passenger travel over Lao New Year.
The train will make its first trip on April 13. Coded K12/11, the 732-seat train will carry passengers between Vientiane and Boten at a top speed of 120km per hour.

In addition, an extra high-speed train, coded C86/5, will serve Vientiane, Phonhong, Vangvieng, Luang Prabang and Xay stations, to meet increased travel demand from April 12 to 17.
On April 14, two more passenger stations will open, with one in Kasy district, Vientiane province, and the other in Nga district, Oudomxay province.
According to the China State Railway Group, as of April 3, the railway had been operating for four months and carried over 2.25 million passengers.
The railway has also transported over 1.31 million tonnes of cargo to and from more than 10 countries including China, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia, promoting international trade connectivity in the region as well as the development of the Laos-China economy, the KPL News Agency reported.
The Laos-China Railway Company Limited is also setting up online ticket sales with the system expected to become operational in the middle of this year.
The creation of additional ticket outlets is expected to make tickets more easily available and prevent touts buying up large numbers of tickets with the intention of selling them at an inflated price.
