S. Korea provides smart tools for digital education at NUOL
Education in Laos has had a boost in digitalisation, thanks to a handover of smart education tools from a company from the Republic of Korea, Ufit Co., Ltd., under the Global ESG+ Programme.
Six sets of smart education tools consisting of dot pattern sheet paper, a digital pen and software worth US$9,120 were given to six faculties under National University of Laos (NUOL).
The ceremony was held at the Faculty of Social Science last Wednesday.
Under the Global Environmental, Social, and Governance Plus (ESG+) Programme connecting Korean private companies that contribute to Laos, Ufit also provided training on how to use the smart education tools in the classroom.
The system allows written content to be displayed on screens using existing paper instead of electronic devices.
The ESG+ Programme is organised by the commercial section of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Laos (KOTRA) Vientiane.
The programme aims to help with development by supporting the ESG activities of Korean companies and the establishment of win-win cooperation with Lao beneficiaries.
The equipment handover ceremony was attended by the Vice President of NUOL, Assoc. Prof. Phosy Thipdavanh; Deputy Director of International Cooperation, EU and Asean Affairs Office of International Relations, Ms Viengsouk Phengboupha; representatives of six faculties and the IT Centre and other officials from NUOL; CEO and Sales Director of Ufit Co., Ltd., Mr Dong Cheol An and Mr Hee Gon Kim respectively; and the Director General of KOTRA Vientiane, Mr Pil Seong Kim.
Training on the use of the equipment and its installation took place from July 4-7 by Ufit Co., Ltd.
During the training programme, company representatives gave an overview of the new technology, which digitises analogue handwriting and introduces the concept of a digital pen based on dot pattern recognition technology. This tool is connected through a programme used for printing a dot pattern on regular A4 paper, namely LINKER.
Users can print out documents such as textbooks and white paper, and then use the dot pattern print to write with the smart pen.
In each room, the Korean company installed a paper sheet on the whiteboard. The smart pen could be used directly on the whiteboard by working with computers and a projector. When writing on paper, through dot pattern printing the writing will be automatically shown on the whiteboard.
Ufit Co., Ltd. is an edu-tech solution developer that provides smart tools and systems such as digital pens, whiteboard blackboards, mobile-based AI learning platforms, and other tools that are easy to use and effective in a variety of educational environments.
Ufit Co., Ltd. participated in this productive project to contribute and support the economic, social and environmentally sustainable growth of developing countries, with this being the company’s first provision of assistance to Laos.
Assoc. Prof. Phosy Thipdavanh said “We are tremendously grateful to KOTRA Vientiane and Ufit Co., Ltd. for recognising the importance of investing in education. I believe that this equipment will be of great help in developing the learning abilities of staff and students.”
“The goal to improve the quality of education is a priority among Laos’ national strategies, and this equipment will surely make a great contribution to fostering talent and improving the quality of education.”
He expressed the hope that the Korean company would provide similar opportunities to another school in Laos.
“Even though the National University of Laos is the largest university in the country, we still lack educational resources. This is the first time we have received educational equipment from Korea since the Covid pandemic,” the vice president said.
Mr Dongcheol An said “This cost-effective item is a new innovation that has not been produced in any other country. We are the first company to provide smart education tools, so that instructors can build a digital interactive environment through interactive classes, with a whiteboard and paper being used instead of more expensive equipment.”
Mr Kim Pilseong said “The ESG+ Programme will be one of the many advancements of Korean small and medium-sized enterprises and development cooperation projects in Laos.”
“We will continue to encourage and support the establishment and maintenance of collaborative partnerships with companies that provide educational programmes for Laos. Hopefully, Korea’s excellent tech-based educational equipment and system will be a great help and contribution to building the capacity of students at the National University of Laos.”
