Khammuan authorities continue helping flood victims

Authorities in Khammuan province are continuing to provide relief materials, including drinking water and dry food, to residents of 14 villages in Khounkham district affected by floods.

Khounkham district continues to be affected by flooding following several days of heavy rains.
Seven of the affected villages still cannot be reached by vehicles as the roads are under flood waters, and the leadership of Khounkham district is providing initial aid by using boats to transport and distribute relief materials.
Recently, the governor of Khounkham district, Mr Keovilay Xayabouth, and other sectors transported water, rice and dry food to 236 affected families in Nakang village, 142 families in Keng village and 137 families in Phonyang village.
Mr Keovilay told the media that authorities will continue to provide aid to people in the affected villages.
He said that since the floods began on August 1, the district’s disaster management committee has coordinated with all stakeholders within Khammuan province and at the center to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the affected people.
Authorities have moved severely affected people, including the residents of Khounmani, Phonyang and Nonghang, to a safe area and provided initial relief assistance to all 14 affected villages.
Heavy rains over several days also caused floods in many villages in several districts of Borikhamxay and Khammuan provinces.
Provincial authorities are now racing to help victims of the floods by providing food, drinking water and medicines.
The Central Disaster Management Committee has directed authorities in all sectors to track all weather alerts and to prepare the people to move their property, animals and other goods in a timely manner in the event of any emergency.
