Borikhamxay police seize over 155,000 amphetamine pills

Police have arrested a group of suspected drug traffickers in Borikhamxay province after finding over 155,000 amphetamine pills in their possession.
The officer in charge of drug control and supervision at the Public Security Office in Borikhamxay province said police received a tip off from local residents that drug dealing was taking place in Pakkading district, so police planned a raid.
During the raid, police detained Mr Phoutmanykham, 27, from Namsanam village in Khounkham district, Khammuan province; Mr Home, 19, from Naluangtai village; Mr Phout Luangvanloun, 23, and Mr Sombounsong, 25, from Thongnamy village in Pakkading district.

Police found 155,791 amphetamine pills and two modified guns in the property they searched.
Officers are continuing their investigations in the hope of tracing other individuals involved in the drug ring. Borikhamxay police said this was their largest drug haul this year with the province a known transit route to neighbouring countries for drug dealers and other smugglers.
Last month, police confiscated almost 200,000 amphetamine pills found in Km35 village in Champhon district, Savannakhet province, and detained two people on charges of involvement in the illegal trade of drugs.
A police officer in charge of drug control and supervision in Savannakhet province said police arrested two suspected drug dealers, named as Mr Souksakhone, 35, and Ms Sifong, 39, from Phosikeo village in Xayphouthong district. Police found 198,000 amphetamine pills in their possession.
Police are continuing their enquiries in the hope of tracing other members of the drug ring as security forces across the country intensify efforts to crack down on drug trafficking.
In Oudomxay province, police arrested a man after stopping his vehicle and finding more than 1 million amphetamine pills and 48 bags of drug precursor chemicals weighing 1,200kg.
A police officer in charge of drug control and supervision in Oudomxay province identified the man as Mr Somlilao, 39, from Pasak village in Xay district.
Police searched an SUV and pick-up truck and found 549 packages of amphetamine containing 1,098,000 tablets weighing 130.5kg and 48 bags of white powder weighing 1,200kg used in the manufacture of drugs.
Police confiscated the two vehicles, a gun and other items belonging to the man.
The drug problem is growing throughout Laos, with many youngsters becoming drug users, leading to social ills and crimes such as robbery and even murder.
Laos is closely involved in regional and international collaboration to combat drugs and tackle challenges. The government is strengthening international cooperation to clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse.
