Covid vaccination certificates to be written in English for travellers

The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has assigned the Mother and Child Health Centre to produce Covid-19 vaccination certificates written in English for people wishing to travel.
Head of the Vaccine Preventable Disease Division under the Ministry of Health, Dr Kongxay Phounphenghack, said the existing vaccination certificates are written in Lao. But certificates written in English will enable people to travel to other countries and show a universally acceptable document, which many countries now require.

The centre will provide English language certificates only after applicants have shown they have the appropriate travel documents and been authorised to travel by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Travellers must also comply with the rules of other countries regarding Covid-19 prevention and control measures.
Although the number of new cases has declined in recent weeks, Laos is still struggling to contain the spread of the virus.
Health officials are accelerating efforts to trace infected people by collecting more samples from people in at-risk locations, particularly Thongkhankham market. Fortunately, 500 samples that were recently tested for Covid-19 all returned negative results.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Director General of the Ministry of Health’s Communicable Diseases Control Department, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsavanh, reported another 15 cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases in Laos to 2,025.
The new cases were identified after 2,015 tests were conducted in the previous 24 hours.
There are now 117 active cases of the virus and three people have died.
Of the new infections, Vientiane recorded six cases of community transmission, while Savannakhet recorded three imported cases and Champassak recorded six imported cases.
Five of the latest cases in Vientiane were identified in Phakhao village, Xaythany district, where the virus spread among the members of one family.
Dr Rattanaxay said locations of risk in Vientiane include the Parkson Shopping Centre and View Mall Shopping Centre, as well as houses in Saphang Mor, Xaysettha district, and Viengkham village in Sikhottabong district.  A noodle restaurant in Thadeua village was also visited by infected persons, as well as the Saysaath Pharmacy near Mahosot Hospital.
