Ground broken for new hospital in Borikhamxay

Construction of a new military hospital has begun in Borikhamxay province, funded by Ha Tinh province in Vietnam at a cost of 4.2 billion kip (8.3 billion VND).
The two-storey building will be a reinforced concrete structure with electrical connections throughout.
A ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction was attended by the Governor of Borikhamxay province, Dr Kongkeo Xaysongkham, and officials from Ha Tinh province.
It is estimated that construction will take nine months.

A project official said the new military hospital will be a symbol of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
Its construction also marks two important anniversaries for Laos and Vietnam, namely the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 1962 to September 2022), and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam comprehensive friendship and cooperation treaty (July 1977 to July 2022).
The Vietnamese and Lao governments have also provided financing for hospitals and improvements to healthcare in Xieng Khuang and Huaphan provinces.
Vietnam’s support for the construction of hospitals serves to further cement the brotherly relations between Laos and Vietnam.
In Xieng Khuang province, a grant was given to fund the construction of a hospital and provide essential medical facilities. In addition, Lao staff received training from their Vietnamese counterparts so they could run the hospital efficiently.
Construction of the six-storey hospital in Paek district involved the provision of fittings and medical equipment.
The hospital has an outpatient department, wards containing about 200 beds, treatment rooms, healthcare services, and offices.
In Huaphan province, the Vietnamese government provided a grant to build a hospital and support staff training.
Huaphan authorities said the hospital would be boost for the health sector and general socio-economic development through the treatment of more patients and better facilities.
