Lao SMEs benefit from China expo

SMEs from more than 30 countries took part in the 17th China International Small and Medium Enterprise Expo which was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, from September 16-19.

The Lao coordinating team for the expo.

The expo was organised in an online and offline platform, providing a broad business opportunity for international SMEs, particularly those from Laos, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh, Germany, Japan, United Arab Emirates and other countries.
The event also allowed SMEs to display their products, strengthen their business collaboration, discuss supply of services, promote international cooperation and further develop the quality of SMEs.
Exhibitors were given the chance to reach new customers and make preparations for market expansion based on a win-win platform.
A number of activities were organised during the expo including roadshows, and the use of new information and technology such as AI and automatic language translation technology.
All activities aimed to enable SMEs to understand the development trends of the market and industry, and gain insights into the latest technology and information, to learn about new terminal products and new technologies, to communicate face-to-face with companies and high-quality buyers, and to reach deals with intended customers.
SME entrepreneurs also discussed their difficulties in accessing funding, high cost of production, high cost of advertising their products in foreign markets, and lack of competitiveness.
Roadshows enabled more than 500 business units to take part in joint activities and promote business matching.
This was the first time that Lao SMEs attended the China International Small and Medium Enterprise Expo.
Some 66 SMEs from Laos took part in the event through the online platform, at a time when there is a great need for Lao SMEs to understand and improve themselves in order to adapt to new changes.
Lao SMEs will need to move from traditional ways of doing business to the wider use of ICT as well as enhance their competitiveness in regional markets.
The expo took place under the theme “Wisdom, Intelligence, Intelligence Manufacturing, and Green” and was supported by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.
