NUOL begins PhD programme in education management

The National University of Laos (NUOL) is offering a new PhD programme on education management to train educators to assume leadership positions in the sector.
The programme will be taught at the Faculty of Education and aims to meet international and Asean standards. The university will employ lecturers from Laos and other countries to provide a diverse array of knowledge sources for students.

An official in charge of the Faculty of Education said the programme will limit the number of students to seven this year, who must pass a test before being accepted into the programme. Application forms are available at the university from January 5-31. The entrance exam will be given on February 6 and will cover the topics of education management, research and English. The results are expected to be announced on February 14.
This is an opportunity for graduates of colleges and state and private educational institutions to take a higher degree.

The programme provides extensive training in education and management. Students will gain indepth understanding of modern management, leadership and pedagogical issues, as well as changes taking place in the education sector.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Education Management or a related subject to be accepted onto the course. Work experience is also desirable as the PhD is partly related to occupational knowledge. The programme will normally last three to five years.
Following completion of the programme, graduates are qualified to take leadership positions in several fields of education: public institutions, preschool and kindergarten, adult education providers, service companies, and special education providers.
In addition, the National University of Laos is accepting new students in 13 faculties and the authorities have developed additional curriculums so graduates can meet the needs of the job market in the region and further afield.
The university aims to develop curriculums along the lines of international programmes that meet Asean and international educational standards.
