Police officers receive promotions, awards
Numerous police departments and units, as well as thousands of police officers, have been given promotions and congratulated by the government for outstanding achievements in the field of national defence and security over the past 10 years (2011-2021).
The awards were last week presented to senior police officers in a ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the public security force.
In addition, Police Commander Major General Vanthong Kongmany was promoted to the post of Deputy Minister of Public Security and will also be Director General of the ministry’s General Political Department.

Meanwhile, four police commanders who held the title of brigadier were promoted to the rank of major general. They are Director General of the General Police Department, Major General Khamking Phouilamanivong; Director General of the General Logistics Department, Major General Noudy Mixayalath; Director General of the General Department of Peace, Major General Dr Buavanh Vongsavanthong; and the ministry’s Head of Office, Major General Somvanh Saylongpha.
Five other police officers were promoted from the rank of colonel to brigadier, and 39 were promoted from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel.
In further recognition of the Ministry of Public Security’s achievements over the past 10 years, first class Issara Orders (Order of Liberty) were awarded to 32 departments and units, 102 individuals received a second class Issara Order, and 21 departments and 35 individuals were awarded a third class Issara Order.
Another 105 departments and units and about 2,000 individuals received a second class Labour Order, while 186 department and units and more than 4,000 individuals were awarded a third class Labour Medal.
An additional 131 departments and units, and more than 5,000 individuals, received a Labour Medal.
Hundreds of departments and units, together with thousands of individuals, were congratulated by the government on a decade of achievements in the field of public security.
In his address at the awards ceremony, Prime Minister Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh congratulated the police commanders and officers on their promotions.
He stressed the need for all high-ranking police officers to continue with comprehensive self-development, raise their political duties to new heights, be the core of solidarity, improve their working methods in line with scientific and centralised principles of democracy, enhance teamwork, be dutiful at all times, and to build the public security force as a revolutionary force with modern methods of operation and strict rules.
