UNDP will continue targeted goals for Laos

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has confirmed that they will continue to work together with other development partners to continue the support for the Lao government to successfully achieve the targeted goals in the foreseen future.
 The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Dr Kikeo  Chanthaboury, along with senior ministry officials and invited guests.
During the meeting, participants reported the progress of their activities and shared their future plans.
 Resident Representative of UNDP, Ms Ricarda Rieger, on Monday in Vientiane made the announcement at the Annual Review and Country Programme Document (CPD) (2022 to 2026) Consultation Meeting between the Government of Lao PDR (GOL) and (UNDP).
UNDP, as an integrator of programmatic solutions, aims to be a strategic partner to Lao to help accelerate digitalisation in GOL by bridging the significant digital gap and supporting Laos’ national vision on digital transformation for better, deeper, and unified public service delivery, post-COVID-19.
She said as the current UNDP country programme comes to an end in 2021, many UNDP projects will conclude their interventions, activities, and support.
During the course of the year, the current structures need to be drawn down, and deliberate decisions need to be taken as to the sustainability of the results. UNDP would like to discuss how projects could maximise the last-year resources and sustain results after the project end during the review session, she said.
An active and straight forward dialogue took place regarding the lessons learned from the previous implementation practices to improve programmes for cooperation over the past year, which was also the final period of the 2017-2021 CPD, developed under the United Nations Development Assistance Framework Guidance (UNDAF), she added.
Dr Kikeo Chanthaboury said the objective of this meeting is to discuss the partnership framework and to consult on areas if development between the government and UNDP between 20222026 and review the evaluation of the past implementation of the CPD (2017-2021) which was conducted in 2020 while identifying the direction for 2021.
The 4 areas of implementation include: Apart from the 4 focused areas, the results and lessons learned from projects supported by UNDP on COVID-19 response were discussed.
 Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lao government had expressed a growing commitment to their digital transformation agenda.
The past cooperation of the programme has contributed to the government of the Lao PDR in the implementation of the 8th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (8th NSEDP).
