Unitel gifts lucky winners car, wide range of prizes to mark 12th anniversary of business operations
The Star Telecom Company, one of the leading providers of high-quality services in telecommunications and modern technology in all fields under the brand name “Unitel”, rewarded customers with numerous prizes won through the “Scratch for Luck” scheme on December 24.
The biggest prize – a Toyota Hilux Revo Pre-Runner – was presented to Mr Phuan Somsana of Phonsavang village in Chanthabouly district of Vientiane.
The award presentation ceremony was held at the company’s headquarters in Vientiane, on the sidelines of celebrations marking the 12th anniversary of the company.
The event was attended by Governor of Xaysettha district, Mr Khamma Sengvixay, a senior official from the Ministry of Technology and Communications, the chief of Phonxay village, Mr Sisouvan Thammavongsa, and other guests.
The “Scratch for Luck”scheme has offered awards to customers between 2020 and December 31, 2021.
Numerous prizes were on offer for lucky winners in 2020 and 2021, including a Toyota Prado, three Isuzu MU-X cars, 20 Honda Wave motorcycles, six Zoomer PCX motorcycles, eight Zoomer X motorcycles, 10 iPhone 12 Pro Max smartphones, 10 Samsung Note 20 smartphones, 15 Samsung S20+ smartphones, 800 Unitel smartphones, 200 Samsung SA 31 smartphones, free calling credits, and internet data for more than 37,000,000 prizes.

In 2019, the company offered a wide range of prizes to customers worth more than 50.294 billion kip, including an Isuzu MU-X, motorbikes, smartphones, calling credits, and free internet data packages.
Speaking at Friday’s ceremony, the Deputy General Director of Star Telecom (Unitel), Mr Bounmy Malavong, said Unitel has significantly developed over the past 12 years in telecommunications and has provided high-quality services in telecommunications and modern technology in all fields, and it is thus well-equipped to promote digital transformation in Laos.
“Over the past decade of technology development in the telecommunications sector, Unitel has become one of the country’s leading providers of high-quality products and services, and was awarded significant prizes at the regional and international levels every year,” he said.
He thanked the firm’s customers and promised to continue improving the telecommunications system to meet the demands of society in the years ahead.
Over the past 12 years, Unitel has gone from being the smallest carrier to becoming the No. 1 carrier in Laos, with the largest telecommunications network.
It provides 3G mobile Internet and complete 4G and 4.5G coverage in every province of Laos, and has the largest and widest mobile signal transmission infrastructure with more than 9,000 base stations.
A 30,000-km fibre optic transmission line penetrates all remote areas and provides hi-tech services in all fields, which make an important contribution to digital transformation in Laos.
Unitel has developed high-quality products and services serving society with more than 22,000 points-of-sale, and has nearly 3.5 million customers using its services and a 57 percent share of the mobile phone market.
This has helped increase the rate of phone usage from 18 percent to 100 percent of the population, who now have universal access to telecommunications and convenient information exchange.

This has brought closer communication to people in towns and rural and remote areas, and created jobs, bringing incomes to more than 25,000 workers.
