Vietnam PM to visit Laos for 47th intergovernmental meeting

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a high-level delegation of Vietnamese government officials on a visit to Laos, where he will co-chair the 47th meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee.

PM Chinh’s visit and attendance at the meeting is in response to an invitation from his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
The committee’s 2025 meeting will take place on January 9-10, aiming to further enhance the great friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.  
The two sides have spent several months preparing for the annual meeting. Late last month, Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and his delegation travelled to Hanoi for talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, as part of the preparations.
The two Deputy PMs discussed cooperation projects, including those relating to transport infrastructure such as the planned Hanoi-Vientiane Expressway, and agreed to address and resolve obstacles and complete the necessary legal procedures to facilitate their implementation.
They also discussed the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Park in Laos, which is expected to be complete in about one year under a turnkey model, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The two governments also discussed ways to accelerate the implementation of key cooperation projects such as the Vung Ang Port and construction of road and rail links to the port.
The Vietnamese side has given Laos a majority stake in the seaport in Vietnam’s central Ha Tinh province – a key project that will provide landlocked Laos with access to much-needed sea routes. The two governments are now working on ways to implement this agreement.
