VietJet joins in developing infrastructure in Lao aviation sector

VietJet Airline and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos have finalised a support agreement for a consultancy study to develop a comprehensive plan for the Lao Airport Network.

The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr Pham Minh Chinh, amd Laos’ Prime Minister, Dr Sonexay Siphandone, on the occasion of an investment cooperation conference in Vientiane last week.
The support agreement is part of the project “Research, planning and defining the airport network, Lao airports by 2030, vision to 2050” under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos.
The objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of aviation infrastructure (the aviation sector) to ensure the comprehensive, modern and sustainable development of Laos.
In addition, the project is in line with the goals and overall direction agreed on in the Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation Strategy in Transport that was signed by the governments of Laos and Vietnam for the period 2016-2025.
This project expected to be implemented within a period of six months.
In 2023, VietJet launched a modern aircraft maintenance centre in Laos that is jointly managed by VietJet and the Lao Airlines State Enterprise (Lao Airlines).
Later, VietJet launched a direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane, and collaborated with the Lao Airlines State Enterprise to start a direct flight between Vientiane and Hanoi.
The company is not only connecting Vientiane and other destinations in Laos with Vietnam, but VietJet's flight routes make travel easier and more convenient with a flight network covering the entire country of Vietnam and points in Australia, India, South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and other nations.
Currently, Vietnam is one of Laos' leading investors and trading partners, especially in the fields of transportation, tourism and science and technology, including the new projects of VietJet.
The company will continue to collaborate with the Lao Civil Aviation Department to implement civil aviation projects and expand operations in Laos, with a commitment to create 2,500 new jobs in the Lao aviation sector.
In addition, VietJet Aviation Institute will take on the task of training personnel according to international standards, along with establishing an independent Maintenance and Repair Overhaul (MRO) facility in Laos.
