Laos, Vietnam bolster ties in public security

The governments of Laos and Vietnam have indicated their shared desire to pursue cooperation in the field of public security by signing an updated agreement.

General Vilay Lakhamfong (left) and General Luong Tam Quang shake hands after signing an agreement on cooperation in public security.

The agreement was signed during a meeting between the two countries’ Ministries of Public Security held in Hanoi on January 12, chaired by Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, General Vilay Lakhamfong, and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang.
Under the agreed plan of cooperation for 2025, the two ministries will continue to coordinate, support and generally assist each other in ensuring peace and the orderliness of political events and foreign affairs.
This will be done by stepping up joint efforts to combat crime and respond to hostile forces that seek to slander and create discord between the two countries.
The two sides will work to strengthen Laos’ Ministry of Public Security, build a citizen information centre, and ensure that unity is enhanced.
Laos’ Ministry of Public Security greatly appreciates the successful mission of the Vietnamese Public Security Forces to protect and build Vietnam in ways that ensure continuing political stability and social order.
This has resulted in a strong economy and enhanced the influential role of the Republic of Vietnam, especially that played by the security forces, which is becoming more and more prominent in the regional and international arenas.
After the meeting, General Vilay Lakhamfong and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Vietnamese President To Lam and reported on the success of bilateral cooperation in 2024 and the cooperation plan for 2025, led by the two countries’ leaders and Ministries of Public Security with a view to maintaining peace and political stability.
President To Lam welcomed the visit by the Lao delegation and praised the success of the comprehensive cooperation between the parties and governments of Laos and Vietnam, especially between the two Ministries of Public Security.
This had led to strong joint cooperation plans which served to further strengthen the great friendship, special unity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, President To Lam said.
