LAIN-LUPIC workshop paves way for higher standards in Laos’ nursing education
Inje University (President Minhyeon Jeon)’s Leading University Project for International Cooperation (LAIN-LUPIC) team successfully held the “10th LAIN-LUPIC Workshop” from January 12-14, 2026.
The three-day event, themed “Enhancement of Nursing Leadership and Research Competency”, was attended by approximately 30 nursing faculty members from the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Laos.
Aimed at improving the quality of nursing education in Laos and strengthening sustainable educational capacity, the workshop focused on three core areas: Faculty Development, Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) Development, and Nursing Research.

Vice President for Medical & Pharmaceutical Affairs at Inje University, Professor Byoungdoo Rhee, delivered a lecture titled “Nursing Leadership and Management in Academic Medical Centers”, presenting strategies for nursing leadership that bridge the gap between higher education institutions and clinical practice.
Project Manager, Professor Jina Oh, followed with a VOD session on “Teaching-Learning Strategies” and a lecture on “Interprofessional Education (IPE)”, emphasising the importance of learner-centered instructional design and multidisciplinary collaborative education.
On the second day, the workshop focused intensively on strengthening MCQ development skills.
Professors Rhee and Oh provided in-depth feedback on 70 exam items developed by the participants—covering seven subjects of the Lao National Nursing Licensing Examination—contributing significantly to the validity and quality of the assessments.
Notably, Professor Rhee conducted a wrap-up session titled “Writing Single-Best-Answer Items to Assess Knowledge Application”, further deepening the participants’ expertise in evaluation.
Having previously strengthened problem-solving MCQ skills during the 7th workshop, this 10th workshop was evaluated as a successful expansion and advancement of those prior achievements.
The final day was dedicated to nursing research competency. Project Researcher, Ms Seohyun Won, began with a lecture on “Quantitative Research Design”, followed by a systematic review of “Variables, Instruments, and Data Analysis Methods”.
This was followed by a session on “Data Coding and Manuscript Submission”, supporting practical skills across the entire research process, from planning to manuscript preparation and submission.
Vice Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Mr Vone Keomany, said “We have further updated and refined our understanding of nursing leadership. The MCQ feedback was highly practical, and the lectures challenged us to dive deeper into nursing research.”
Professor Oh said “Through these 10 editions of the LAIN-LUPIC workshop, we have built a vital platform for international cooperation dedicated to strengthening global nursing education. By organically linking education, research, and clinical practice, we continue to contribute to the sustainable development of nursing education in Laos and the improvement of medical service quality.”
