Chinese companies to launch land reclamation project in Champassak, Oudomxay
Three Chinese companies have signed a cooperation agreement for a land reclamation project for agricultural production in Champassak and Oudomxay provinces.
The agreement was signed on January 24 by the President of the Asia Tobacco Industry Group Co Ltd, Mr Yang Bo, the Director of the Henan Road and Bridge Construction Group Co Ltd, Mr Wang Sheng Qin, and the Director of the Dongzhu Ecological Protection Co Ltd, Mr Shi Jin Wei.
The project is being supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and will focus on allocation of land to grow tobacco, sugarcane and bananas in Oudomxay and Champassak provinces.

Preparations for the project have been underway for six months, and combined with the active efforts of the staff of the Asian Tobacco Industry Group, the large-scale venture for land allocation and agriculture will start during the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The project will spend three to four years developing the allocated land and planting crops on 267,000 hectares in each province.
The Asia Tobacco Industrial Park, located in Vientiane and Luang Namtha province, will start construction work in March.
The Asia Tobacco Industry Group is a comprehensive tobacco manufacturing industry chain, according to China's "One Belt One Road" strategy, with a huge investment project in Laos.
Various constructions and related projects will be implemented, and the measures encourage the development of the agricultural sector, the training of personnel, and the creation of jobs. The project will also contribute to the tax revenues of Laos in the long term.
In addition, the project will help build friendship and strengthen successful results for the development of relations between Laos and China.
The Asia Tobacco Industry Group is also cooperating with the National University of Laos for jointly establishing the Institute of Tobacco Science, which will accept students for bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate courses this year.
The Asia Tobacco Industry Group intends to develop technical personnel specialising in the improvement of land quality, and prevention and elimination of plant diseases.
It will also encourage the planting of seedlings, tobacco cultivation, extracting tobacco substances, technical reform, and safe production in the processing of tobacco products.
The agreement that was signed was closely supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the National University of Laos as a pillar in personnel building.
Through the joint efforts of the Asia Tobacco Industry Group, the Henan Road and Bridge Construction Group and the Dongzhu Ecological Protection Co Ltd, the project is expected to achieve success.
