Party begins drive to fulfil goals endorsed at 12th Congress

Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, on Wednesday led a national meeting to translate the resolutions adopted by the Party’s 12th National Congress into concrete action.
The meeting, which took place at the National Convention Centre, was attended by members of the Politburo, Party Central Secretariat, Party committees, and senior cadres from across Laos.
Mr Thongloun said the 12th National Party Congress, which took place last month, had been a great success, reflecting the strong unity and sense of responsibility throughout the Party in making decisions on key issues relating to the Party, the revolution, and the nation’s future.
But he warned that the real test now lies in practical action.
“The greatest challenge is how to ensure that the Party’s wise political guidance is effectively carried out and translated into real victories,” he said.
This will require the Party to strengthen its leading role, uphold the integrity of state administration and governance, and further promote the role and ownership of the people in national development, he added.
President Thongloun outlined five priorities to guide the next stage of work.
First, he called on all Party members and state officials to build a deep and systematic understanding of the political and organisational direction set by the 12th National Congress.
Second, he urged all government bodies and provinces to firmly grasp the key content of the resolutions so they can apply them effectively in their daily work.
Third, he emphasised the need for detailed work and action plans. Each ministry and province must clearly define tasks, assign responsible personnel, prepare financial plans, and set timelines. The results, he said, must be practical and measurable.
Fourth, he stressed the importance of proper systems to guide, monitor and inspect progress to ensure work moves forward as planned.
Fifth, he called for unity, courage and creativity within the Party, saying solidarity will be essential to achieve the goals spelled out in the Congress’s resolutions.
The President also highlighted the need to strengthen political conviction and internal cohesion. He urged cadres to guard against mistaken views and rigid thinking, and to maintain firm resolve in all circumstances. The aim, he said, is to turn the resolutions into a broad movement that engages the whole of society and delivers clear benefits to the Lao people.
At the same meeting, Party Central Committee Politburo member and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone presented a five-year plan detailing six major goals.
These include building a more self-reliant and independent economy, improving the quality of human resources, raising living standards and building a liveable society, protecting the environment and reducing risks, improving infrastructure for better connectivity and integration, and strengthening public administration and governance.
The Political Programme and Political Report adopted at the 12th National Party Congress was read out, and attendees discussed how the 10th five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan will be implemented through annual programmes.
The meeting signalled a renewed effort to align Party policy with national development priorities and ensure that the resolutions adopted at the 12th National Party Congress deliver tangible progress for Laos in the years ahead.
