Vientiane, Moscow ink pact to drive shared development

The governors of Vientiane and Moscow have signed an agreement on the strengthening of bilateral relations, with the aim of delivering mutual benefits through closer cooperation.
The agreement was signed in Moscow last week by the Mayor of Vientiane, Dr Atsaphangthong Siphandone, and Minister of the Moscow City Government, Mr Sergey Cheremin.
The signing took place during a visit by Dr Atsaphangthong and his delegation to Moscow and Saint Petersburg from February 25-March 6, according to Lao National Radio.
The aim of the agreement is to strengthen the ties between the two capital cities in the fields of cultural heritage, urban planning, environmental protection, tourism, and sports.
There will also be closer cooperation in industrial development and innovation, trade and investment, as well as the organisation of exhibitions and meetings.
The two governors pledged to coordinate their activities under the agreement in line with the scope of planned activities, to ensure legal and effective implementation.
The agreement provides for closer ties with regard to culture and cultural heritage, urban development, urban environment protection, tourism, industry development, trade and business relations, public transport, and land transport infrastructure.
