Phongsavanh Foundation makes great contribution to assistance and relief in Laos
The Phongsavanh Foundation has contributed a great deal to help minimise poverty, raise living standards, and promote education, health care and sound family values in the poorest areas of Laos since the foundation was established in 2017.This has been achieved through a variety of means including disaster relief aid, community building programmes, improvement of infrastructure in schools and the development of new curricula, farm productivity training, and emergency medical services.
From 2017-2024, the foundation, led by the Phongsavanh Group, has donated ambulances to the Mittaphab Hospital (Friendship Hospital) in Vientiane and the Savannakhet provincial hospital; one billion kip to victims of the Xe Pian Xe Namnoy hydropower dam collapse in Attapeu province; and donated medical supplies and consumer products to central hospitals such as Mahosot, Setthathirath, Mittaphab and 103, and local hospitals, to support the fight against Covid-19.

                            | | In 2018, the Foundation provided emergency aid and manpower to distribute  relief supplies for the Attapeu dam disaster. The foundation also helped support people whose houses burnt down in Sanfaen village in Xieng Khuang province, donated rice and dried food to ethnic schools in Luang Namtha province, gave clothes and rice to people in Nong district, Savannakhet province, and supplied 260 blankets to ethnic schools in the Vangtat area of Attapeu province.
This was followed by the donation to soldiers in Xaysettha district, Attapeu province, to buy sports equipment, while consumer products were provided to flood-affected families in Huaphan province, and drinking water was donated to flood victims in Hadxaifong district, Vientiane.

                            | | The foundation has also helped to build sinks, water tanks and fountains for a primary school in Phonsavath village, donated money to security authorities in Keosamee village, and provided speakers to three villages in Longxan district, Xaysomboun province. The foundation also set up an experimental programme of boiled chicken eggs for children at the kindergarten and primary school in Phonsavath village, Longxan district, Xaysomboun province.
In addition, the foundation partnered with Phongsavanh Bank to give 20 tonnes of rice to flood victims in Luang Namtha province, survival kits to flood victims in Saravan province, 20 fans to schools in five villages of Vangvieng district, Vientiane province, and donated drinking water and anti-Covid-19 supplies to Hongkaikeo village in Xaysettha district, Vientiane.
In its most recent assistance, the Phongsavanh Foundation and Singapore’s A New Vision, together with a medical team from the Tilganga Eye Hospital in Nepal and a management and medical team from Mahosot Hospital, offered free cataract surgery in Laos.
Cataracts are one of the leading causes of preventable blindness and, for many in our community, the inability to afford corrective surgery has meant years of unnecessary darkness.
The total value of social assistance provided by the Phongsavanh Foundation amounts to about 6.4 billion kip.
The Phongsavanh Family have, since its inception, been the sole benefactors of the foundation’s many programmes, which are executed both by dedicated management and operations teams as well as local and foreign volunteer help.
The over-arching objective of the foundation is to provide Laos communities targeted for help with a fresh sense of identity and hope, combined with the tools and opportunities necessary for them to take responsibility for the improvement of their own livelihoods and that of future generations.
However, as the foundation extends its reach and programs and projects increase over time, external funding will become essential for medium to longer term sustainability.
For this reason, the foundation will need to rely on the generosity of benefactors from around the world. Fund raising drives will be a necessity. A “100 percent benefit to the community” donation policy has been put in place to encourage donations to be made.
This protocol will ensure that funds donated by benefactors are segregated from the foundation’s operational account and will go wholly to benefitting the communities in Laos that the foundation exists to serve.
