Dr Sonexay Siphandone and Mr Ding Xuexiang met in Hainan on March 26.

The meeting was held as Prime Minister Sonexay attended the Boao Forum for Asia 2025, which is being held during March 26-28.
The Boao Forum for Asia is a nongovernmental and non-profit international organisation that serves as a platform for dialogue among government leaders, the business sector and academics from Asia and other continents to address key regional and global issues.
Both leaders exchanged updates on the socio-economic developments of their countries and praised the strong traditional friendship under the “Four Good” principles and the Laos-China Community of Shared Future.
They commended the progress in implementing the 2025 Action Plan for Building a Laos-China Community of Shared Future, particularly cooperation on political and security issues, trade, investment and infrastructure.
The leaders discussed ways to enhance trade, investment and tourism, while reaffirming their support for further development of the Laos-China Railway, which serves as a key driver of economic growth and connectivity.
Dr Sonexay congratulated China on the success of the Third Session of the 14th National People’s Congress and the organisation of the Boao Forum, highlighting its role in fostering regional cooperation and aligning with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
He also conveyed greetings to Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
On the same occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay expressed appreciation for China’s continued assistance in addressing Laos’ economic and financial challenges, and it’s support for Laos’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2024.
He reiterated the commitment of the Lao Party and government to strengthening ties with China across all sectors.
Vice Premier Ding welcomed Prime Minister Sonexay’s participation in the Boao Forum, and said his visit will further deepen bilateral relations. He emphasised the importance of ongoing cooperation in trade, infrastructure and security under the strategic partnership framework.
Both sides acknowledged the significance of the recently signed memorandum of understanding on the Global Security Initiative, and highlighting their shared vision for regional stability and development.
