Vientiane Countdown 2024 break records, draws over 100,000 people

The Vientiane Countdown 2024 broke all records set at previous public New Year’s events in Laos and also featured the biggest ever fireworks display in central Vientiane, with the whole event organised by city authorities in cooperation with Lao Brewery Co., Ltd.
The first and biggest New Year celebration which was held at the city’s iconic Patouxay Monument from December 29-31 attracted more than 100,000 people, both local and foreign.

The actual countdown to bid farewell to the past year and welcome the arrival of 2024 was indeed a memorable start to the New Year.
The Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. spent more than 1 billion kip to set up and advertise the event and ensure that everything went to plan, safety was assured, and the public was greatly impressed.
The countdown itself was the highlight of the event, with Patouxay being a fitting location given its central position in the city centre and its familiarity to all residents of Laos.
Without doubt, the most impressive part of the show was a dramatic firework display at the midnight hour when more than 2,000 fireworks shot into the heavens, thrilling onlookers as the night sky filled with showers of colour.
The Marketing Director of Lao Brewery Co., Ltd., Mr Chansamone Phongchantha, said “Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. was very proud to see Lao people and foreigners interested in participating in the event in the last three days. This was a good move to lay the foundations for the launch of Visit Laos Year 2024. Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. is honoured and privileged to cooperate with the Vientiane administration in creating a memorable and exciting experience and we will continue to be alongside Lao society in creating innovation and providing new experiences for the public.”
The three-day event featured a number of activities organised to boost commerce and attract visitors prior to the countdown.
Stalls selling food and beverages were set up while items made under the One District, One Product scheme and other products were also on sale.
Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. transformed Patouxay Park into a wonderful photo opportunity through the use of coloured lighting that showed off the monument to great advantage and was the talk of the town over the New Year period.
Throughout 2023, Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. funded numerous traditional social and sporting events, such as the boat races in Vientiane, the rocket festival, and activities as part of the Lao New Year celebrations.
In other areas of support, the company provided scholarships for more than 200 college and university students.
In addition, the company supports environmental protection and social and fundraising activities such as the Run for Children, otherwise known as the Luang Prabang Half Marathon, in which more than 3,000 people took part this year.
The brewery also provided funding support for the Vientiane International Marathon, which saw more than 4,000 people take part, and the Vangvieng Music Fest, which was attended by more than 10,000 people, as well as events in support of the launch of Visit Laos Year in 2024.

Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. is proud of its high profile in these arenas and the contributions it makes to worthy causes and public enjoyment, which also serve to bolster the economy and put Laos on the tourism map.
