M moneyX, LOCA launch partnership to boost digital payments and smart mobility in Laos

M moneyX and LOCA have officially launched a new partnership following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Lao Telecom Headquarters on Friday (May 29), aimed at strengthening digital payments and expanding smart mobility services in the Lao PDR.
The collaboration enables users to book LOCA taxi services directly through the M moneyX application and pay fares cashlessly via the M moneyX digital wallet. The integration is designed to provide a more convenient, faster, safer and more seamless travel and payment experience for users.
A key component of the partnership includes support for LOCA’s electric vehicle (EV) charging services. With charging stations available across all 18 provinces – the widest network in the country – EV users will be able to pay for charging credits instantly through the M moneyX platform.
The companies said this feature is expected to enhance EV accessibility and support the continued development of the country’s electric mobility ecosystem.
Both sides emphasised that the initiative aims to connect transport services with digital financial technology, contributing to improved quality of life and the broader transition toward a cashless society in Laos.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Lao Mobile Money Sole Company Limited, Mr Alounnadeth Barnchit, said the partnership will expand the functionality of the M moneyX application by integrating taxi booking and payment services into a unified digital platform, supporting the country’s shift toward a fully digital economy.
The LOCA Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr SouliyoVongdala, stated that the collaboration marks an important step in building a more connected transport ecosystem, where mobility and digital services are integrated to improve convenience and accessibility for users.
Under the new system, users will be able to complete taxi bookings, fare payments, and EV charging transactions within a single application environment, reducing reliance on cash and separate payment systems.
To mark the launch, the two companies have also introduced a promotional campaign. Users who book a LOCA taxi and pay through the M moneyX app will receive an instant reward of 1GB of free mobile data.
Both companies expressed confidence that the partnership will contribute to the growth of Laos’ digital economy, while supporting long-term development in smart mobility and smart city initiatives.
