PM to visit Vietnam, attend ASEAN Future Forum
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation, will pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum.
The scheduled visit from June 7-9 is made at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, Le Minh Hung, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The visit aims to further strengthen the great friendly relations, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic partnership between Laos and Vietnam.
PM Sonexay will hold talks with senior Vietnamese leaders on enhancing bilateral cooperation and deepening ties between the two neighbouring countries.
During the visit, the Lao Prime Minister will also attend the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum alongside other regional leaders and experts.
Participants at the forum will discuss regional development and cooperation under the theme “Shaping a shared future together: Peace, prosperity and people-centred development”, according to the Vietnam News.
The forum, an initiative launched by Vietnam, aims to create an open, inclusive and forward-looking platform for leaders, scholars and businesses to discuss strategic issues concerning ASEAN and the wider region.
Discussions at the 2026 forum are expected to contribute policy recommendations and fresh perspectives to support the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, with the goal of building a peaceful, cohesive, prosperous, resilient, sustainable and people-centred ASEAN, the news agency reported, citing spokeswoman for the Vietnam’s foreign ministry Phạm Thu Hang as saying.
The Lao ministry said the visit is expected to further reinforce the longstanding friendship and special relationship between Laos and Vietnam while promoting cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
