Phu Bia Mining supports cave rescue operation in Xaysomboun province

Phu Bia Mining (PBM) provided emergency personnel, medical assistance and critical equipment to support a recent rescue operation in Longchaeng district, Xaysomboun province, helping authorities respond to an incident involving seven people trapped inside a cave.
The support highlighted the role of cooperation between government agencies, rescue teams and private sector partners in responding to emergencies and ensuring timely assistance in critical situations.
At the request of the Longchaeng District Governor on May 25, PBM’s senior management deployed a specialised team to conduct an initial assessment and support rescue efforts on the ground.

The team arrived at Namphagnai village in Longchaeng district, located approximately 40 km north-northeast of PBM’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold mine, and coordinated with rescue personnel working at the site.
During the operation, PBM supplied food, drinking water, tents, ropes, lighting equipment and other essential materials to assist rescue teams operating in challenging conditions.
The company also deployed emergency medical support, including a paramedic, two fire and emergency services personnel, security staff and a fully equipped ambulance to provide treatment and transport for survivors if required.
In addition, PBM provided 10 oxygen cylinders and a gas detector to monitor oxygen levels inside the cave, equipment considered essential in supporting search efforts and maintaining safety during the rescue operation.
PBM personnel remained on standby throughout the mission to assist rescue teams and provide medical support where needed.
Rescue teams successfully located and assisted five of the seven missing individuals out of the cave during the operation. Following the conclusion of active rescue efforts on June 7, PBM personnel returned to the mining site.
Authorities have since sealed the area from public access after determining that conditions inside the cave present a significant risk to rescue personnel, and further entry would be unsafe.
The operation reflected the importance of rapid emergency response and collaboration during crisis situations, while recognising the efforts of all personnel involved in the rescue mission.
As one of the largest mining companies operating in Laos, PBM continues to support local communities through various initiatives, including emergency response assistance and community development activities.
