Lao leaders offer condolences to Venezuela over deadly earthquakes
President Thongloun Sisoulith and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Thongsavan Phomvihane have sent messages of condolence to their Venezuelan counterparts following the powerful earthquakes that struck Caracas and surrounding areas on June 24, according to an official statement.
President Thongloun sent a message of sympathy to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, expressing profound sorrow over the loss of life, injuries, and extensive dam-age caused by the earthquakes.
On behalf of the government and people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and in his personal capacity, the President extended sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Venezuela, especially the families of those who lost their lives and all those affected by the earthquakes.
He also expressed confidence that, through the efforts of the Venezuelan Government and people, together with support from the international community, Venezuela would overcome the challenges resulting from the disaster and restore normal living conditions in the affected areas as soon as possible.
According to the statement, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Thongsavan Phomvihane also conveyed a message of condolence to Venezuela’s Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Mr Yván Gil Pinto.
In his message, Mr Thongsavan expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life, injuries and widespread damage caused by the earthquakes. On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the people of the Lao PDR, he extended heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Venezuela, particularly the bereaved families and all those affected by the disaster.
Mr Thongsavan expressed confidence that Venezuela would overcome the destruction caused by the earthquakes and achieve a swift recovery through the leadership of its government and the resilience of its people.
