Myanmar starts direct flights from Yangon to Vientiane

Myanmar Airways International Co Ltd, a private airline based in Myanmar, recently launched direct flight connecting Vientiane and Yangon.
This is the first service connecting the two countries, according to  Pasaxon newspaper.
The ceremony marking the launch of the new flight was held recently at Wattay International Airport and it was attended by the Myanmese Ambassador to Laos, Aung Ko, representative of the Civil Aviation wing of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and  representatives of the airline.
Myanmar Airways will operate two flights a week, on Tuesday and Thursday, using Airbus A319 and 320 and Embraer E190 aircraft, which can accommodate more than 100 passengers.
The direct flight between Vientiane and Yangon is an important milestone in enhancing relations between Laos and Myanmar.
Ambassador Aung Ko said at the ceremony that the flight will be a bridge to promote trade, investment, tourism and relations between the people of the two countries.
“The opening of direct flights between Yangon and Vientiane and from Vientiane to Yangon City is a great opportunity to facilitate the travel of local businesspeople and tourists,” he said. “It will also develop and promote cultural tourism and strengthen socio-economic development within ASEAN and at the international level.”
