NA adopts 11 revised laws and two new laws to develop economy

The National Assembly (NA) has approved 11 revised laws and two new laws after a debated by its members on how these legislations can be effectively implemented to bolster the country’s socio-economic development.

The new laws are the Cooperative Law and the Law on Medicinal Resources, the Vice President of the NA, Dr Chaleun Yiapaoher, told a news conference yesterday.
The 11 revised laws are the Anti-Corruption Law, Law on Environmental Protection, Law on the National Assembly, Law on Provincial People’s Councils, Law on the Election of National Assembly’s Members and Members of the People’s Councils at the provincial level, Law on Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS, Value-Added Tax Law, Fire Prevention and Control Law, Investment Promotion Law, Law on Tourism, and the Law on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), he said.
The consideration and adoption of these 13 laws is an important achievement in implementing the plan to create and improve laws during 2023-2025.
It is also an important contribution to improving and increasing mechanisms for state management, economic and social management of the country and building a more comprehensive system to ensure the protection of the rights and benefits of the state, individuals, legal entities and all ethnic groups of Laos, said Dr Chaleun.
They will also contribute to suppressing and resisting the appearance of slander that violates the laws in society and the creation of a democratic state governed by strict laws.
Although those laws have been adopted, the Law Commission will continue to coordinate with the relevant commissions of the National Assembly, the committee in-charge of each law and the relevant parties to improve and complete them. It will then report to the Standing Committee of the NA before proposing that the President issue a decree so that they are officially promulgated in accordance with regulations.
In order to ensure that the adopted laws are fully implemented, Dr Chaleun called on ministry agencies, officials, state employees, state enterprises, private companies and the people to pay attention to spread, integrate and consolidate the contents of the laws.
Everyone should participate in the implementation of these laws to produce real results, and change the consciousness and lifestyle of each individual, family, organisation, and enterprise unit in the public and private sectors, he said.
