A recent report from Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism reveals that 1,819,504 Cambodians traveled abroad in 2023, an impressive 87.5 percent increase from 970,000 in 2002. The average travel expenditure per person exceeded US$$300, with expectations of continued annual growth. In Laos, tourism is the second-largest industry after mining. The Laotian government has launched the Laos Tourism Recovery Roadmap 2021-2025, forecasting that tourism’s contribution to GDP will rise to 41.3 percent by 2025. With the strong economic growth and governmental support for tourism in Cambodia and Laos, outbound travel is set to become a significant trend. Taiwan must seize this opportunity to establish a foothold and gain a competitive edge in these emerging markets.
Taiwan Tourism Workshop will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Vientiane, Laos. Over 150 industry professionals and media journalists will attend, focusing on urban lifestyle and regional tourism. The events will showcase Taiwan’s classic itineraries and tourist attractions. Additionally, the conferences will highlight programs such as the “Accelerated and Expanded Inbound Tourism Promotion Program,” the “Taiwan the Lucky Land,” and the “Taiwan Pass,” an electronic discount ticket that combines high-speed rail, MRT, and Taiwan Tourist Shuttle services.
The event will showcase performances by Taiwan’s renowned international dance group, Fun To Art, featuring “Taiwan Music Festival 2.0” and “Illuminating Taiwan,” set to classic Taiwanese music to highlight Taiwan’s modern culture. Attendees can participate in eco-friendly screen printing and DIY activities, such as creating neon lights in the shapes of bubble tea and mango ice. These engaging experiences aim to capture the beauty and surprises of Taiwan, reflecting the 3.0 version of Taiwan’s tourism brand, “TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder.”
