The biological safety cabinet will assist medical personnel performing safe handling and prevent them from exposure to biohazardous and infectious laboratory samples while also helping to maintain quality control throughout testing.
During the ceremony, Phu Bia Mining also signed an amended agreement with Setthathirath Hospital on assistance for underprivileged breast and ovarian cancer patients, with funding to be provided to cover the cost of medical supplies, treatment, meals, accommodation, and transport to and from their place of residence.
PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about the importance of assisting people in Laos to access much needed funding to maintain good health and well-being.
Mr Zheng said “In October 2019, PanAust and Phu Bia Mining carried out a month-long breast cancer awareness campaign that raised money for underprivileged breast cancer patients in Laos.”
“The 2019 programme, through information and workshops for its employees and local communities, advocated the importance of early detection. During breast cancer awareness month, employees and contractors donated what they could to the campaign and, at its close, all the money raised was matched by PanAust.”
“Following the conclusion of the campaign, Phu Bia Mining signed an agreement that formalised the subsidised cost of breast and ovarian cancer treatment for underprivileged patients who meet Setthathirath Hospital’s criteria.”
“Affected and delayed by the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021, Phu Bia Mining subsidised cancer treatment costs, meals, accommodation and transport for 22 eligible, underprivileged breast and ovarian cancer patients and their carers at the hospital.”
“The amended agreement will provide more opportunities to use the funds to purchase much needed medical supplies for the hospital, which provides medical treatment for underprivileged cancer patients,” Zheng said.
Mr Chanpheng added “Health is one of Phu Bia Mining’s six key community development projects that the Company has focused on in Xaysomboun province as well as supporting other communities in Laos.”
“We would like to thank our workforce for their generous commitment and contributions to support the 2019 campaign which has been life changing for those involved. This demonstrates the company’s respect for the government and people of Laos and the company’s resolve to leave a lasting positive legacy in the country by increasing access to quality healthcare.”
