Phu Bia Mining celebrates National Aquatic and Wildlife Conservation Day and Fish Release Day

Phu Bia Mining (PBM), in partnership with Xaysomboun province’s authorities, marked the 29th National Aquatic and Wildlife Conservation Day and Fish Releasing Day on July 10 by releasing more than 22,000 fish fingerlings into rivers and reservoirs across the province, reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and biodiversity protection.
The celebration brought together representatives of PBM, provincial authorities, local communities, and the villages of Nam Mo, Nam Gnone and Saysana sub - district to promote the sustainable management of aquatic resources and raise public awareness about wildlife conservation.
As part of the event, around 5,000 fish fingerlings were released into Nam Ngum Reservoir 2 at Na Tou Port, a key transport hub linking the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation.
In support of the province-wide conservation campaign, PBM also provided more than 17,000 fish fingerlings to government agencies, including 10,000 for Anouvong district, 5,000 for Longchaeng district, and 2,000 for the Xaysomboun Provincial Military Command, for release into water bodies throughout the province.
The company’s conservation efforts continued on July 13, when PBM representatives joined local authorities in Anouvong district to release more than 10,000 additional fish fingerlings into the Nam Jung river.
These activities reflect PBM’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship and the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
As one of leading mining companies In Laos and Southeast Asia, PBM integrates environmental management into every stage of its operations, from exploration and development to production, while implementing comprehensive monitoring programmes to safeguard aquatic ecology, biodiversity and native fish species around its mining sites.
PBM Managing Director David Reid reaffirmed the company’s commitment to support national and provincial conservation efforts. “Our operations, from exploration to development and production operations, endeavour to protect the natural environment and native aquatic species near Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai,” he said.
“We work with Xaysomboun provincial authorities to help spread the message about aquatic and wildlife protection to local communities in Xaysomboun province and support the 2026 National Government’s campaign to release approximately 72 million fingerlings into river systems.”
Mr David Reid expressed thanks to the company’s environment team and workforce, who continue to protect the environment and support community-led conservation efforts for the long-term benefit of Xaysomboun’s local ecosystems.
