Thai Ambassador visits Savan Park to boost economic ties

The Thai Ambassador to Laos, Mrs Krongkanit Rakcharoen, and a delegation accompanying her recently paid an official visit to the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone C (Savan Park) to inspect development progress, assess trade performance, and strengthen cross-border economic cooperation.
The delegation was warmly welcomed upon arrival by the Chief Executive Director of the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA), Dr Thanongsai Soukkhamthat, and Chief Executive Officer of Savan Logistics (Dry Port), Mr Jean-Pierre Grzelczyk.

The Ambassador received a comprehensive briefing on the zone’s continuous growth, infrastructure expansion, and investment climate.
Discussions highlighted Savan Park’s ongoing commitment to fostering international collaboration, including welcoming Thai university students for hands-on internships in factories located within the zone.
This initiative creates valuable practical training opportunities for both Lao and foreign students, reinforcing workforce development and cultural exchange in the region.
The Ambassador also engaged directly with Thai managers and directors operating enterprises within the zone, gaining insights into their daily operations, the unique advantages of relocating production bases to Laos, and the smooth cross-border travel logistics supporting business mobility.

Highlighting the economic vitality of the region, official figures released during the visit underscored strong import-export and transit performance. For the 2025 trade performance, total import value reached US$196,889,463.29, while export value climbed to US$204,073,649.75.
For the 2026 mid-year performance spanning January to June, import values registered at US$119,524,330, with exports surging to US$134,623,758.
Furthermore, Savannakhet Dry Port in-transit cargo value reached an impressive US$9,698,293,601 in 2025, followed by US$6,653,780,200 between January and June of this year.
As part of the itinerary, the Ambassador toured the Savannakhet Dry Port to observe import-export documentation procedures, customs clearance workflows, and the operational coordination between zone authorities and customs officials.

The delegation also visited Hi-Tech Savannakhet Apparel Sole Co., Ltd., who produce Nike Sport Brand products, a prominent Thai-invested manufacturing facility established by investors residing and operating in Laos.
The visit provided a firsthand look at the successful relocation of industrial production lines, employee lifestyles, and the efficient operational environment fostered within the special economic zone.
The Ambassador also visited the International Border Friendship Bridge II Cargo Terminal and Savannakhet Dry Port, where she observed the actual proceedings related to inbound and outbound cargo.
