Luxembourg boosts Laos’ rule of law budget by 2.5 million euro

The Government of Luxembourg has allocated an additional 2.5 million euro to enhance the Rule of Law, Access to Justice, and Good Governance (ROLAG) programme in Laos.
This funding will extend the inter-university cooperation between the Faculty of Law and Political Science and the University of Luxembourg until 2027.
The announcement came during the ROLAG Programme Steering Committee Meeting held at the Faculty, co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Education Dr Sourioudong Sundara; Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Justice, Mr Khampone Sipaseuth; and Chargé d’Affaires at the Luxembourg Embassy in Laos, Mr Thomas Lammar.
The primary objectives of the meeting were to review the numerous achievements of the ROLAG programme for the second year in a row, approve the work plan and indicative budgets for 2024/25, and endorse the revised technical and financial programme document.
Enhanced collaboration in the inter-university cooperation programme between the Faculty of Law and Political Science and the University of Luxembourg aims to further strengthen the legal education framework and promote the rule of law in Laos, along with access to justice and good governance, by leveraging international expertise and exchange and fostering academic excellence.
The deepened partnerships with diverse actors of the legal sector present at the meeting, including the National Assembly, Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, speaks to their collective commitment to improve access to justice and good governance for the people of Laos.
The Rule of Law, Access to Justice and Good Governance Programme (LAO/037) is financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and jointly implemented by the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Ministry of Justice, the Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance (ILSTA), the University of Luxembourg, and LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.
