Champasak speeds up green tourism plans, prepares to reopen waterfalls

Champasak authorities are stepping up efforts to promote green tourism while preparing to reopen the popular Pa Soy and Tad Pha Suam waterfalls as part of activities under the theme “Pakse International Half Marathon 2026”.
Provincial authorities recently met with tour operators in Champasak province to discuss the tourism programme, including plans to broaden the scope of the November marathon to help revive the local economy and generate revenue for people living in the area.
Runners taking part in the half marathon will cross a bridge with views of both banks of the Mekong River.
The meeting brought together the Secretary of the Champasak Provincial Party Committee, Mr Alounxay Sounnalath, and President of the Lao Association of Travel Agents, Mr Inthy Deuansavanh, to review tourism issues and discuss ways to accelerate delayed tourism development projects so that popular sites can reopen as soon as possible. Mr Inthy said he would support efforts to reopen key tourist attractions and organise tourism activities.
Preparations are underway to reopen the Pa Soy waterfall in October after environmental and related documents are completed.
Tad Pha Suam waterfall is scheduled to reopen in October next year, following the renovation of visitor facilities, with local communities encouraged to share in tourism activities at the waterfall, according to the Champamai newspaper.
 Public-private partnership is expected to strengthen tourism in Champasak province by attracting more visitors, while also providing local people with job more opportunities.
