New nature-based tourist site opens to visitors

A new nature-based tourist attraction called La Foret has opened in Vernthaen village, Pakngum district, about 32km from Vientiane city centre.
The site is currently almost complete, with plans for a grand opening in October once the remaining developments are in place and operational.

Speaking at the soft opening ceremony, the developer of La Foret, Mr Inthy Deuansavanh, told the Vientiane Times that the rural retreat offers a variety of facilities and activities for visitors to enjoy.
They include a restaurant, orchid pavilion showcasing native Lao orchids, a meeting room that can accommodate up to 80 people, and bicycle paths for exploring the natural surroundings so that visitors can enjoy being among large trees and listening to cicadas and crickets.
There is also a pavilion showcasing the different bamboo species grown in Laos, as well as treetop canopy walks, a Treehouse Cafe situated 21 metres above the ground, ziplining, and ropeways.
The site aims to provide a balance of adventure and relaxation, catering to visitors who want to immerse themselves in nature.
Mr Inthy said the concept of La Foret is to preserve the forest area near Vientiane amid the rapid expansion of the city.
“My business concept is to employ local people and arrange training for them so they can develop new skills. We will try to source some of the essential items we need, such as vegetables and poultry, from local people so they can earn a bit more money. We also plan to contribute some of our income to the Verntan village fund, which will be used for community development.”
The entry fee to La Foret for adults and children over 1.2 metres tall is 80,000 kip and includes parking. The price also includes boat transport to and back from the site, access to the orchid pavilion, and walks around the grounds.
Visitors who wish to explore the bicycle paths can rent a bike for an additional 50,000 kip per day. Prices for the treetop canopy walks, ziplining, and ropeways are not included in the entrance fee.
