JICA hands over digital information sharing system to public works ministry
A new website for a digital information-sharing system, namely VirGo (https://virgo.mpwt.gov.la), was handed over to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on January 17.
The event took place at the ministry and was attended by representatives of the ministry’s Department of Housing and Urban Planning, the Public Works and Transport Institute, Vientiane Department of Public Works and Transport, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Laos Office, and the JICA expert team of the Current Condition Survey in Pilot Area for Project for Capacity Development on Urban Development Control and Promotion in Laos (CDUDCP).
The VirGo website has been developed under the CDUDCP project, supported by JICA from March 2022.
The website has been created to share information about urban planning and urban development, not only for government agencies, but also for citizens and private business operators.
Through the website, users can easily access various official data and information such as land use plans, infrastructure network maps, laws and regulations at any time, using a personal computer or smartphone.
VirGo is an achievement of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s challenge to incorporate digital innovation in the field of urban management.
The developers hope the website will improve the administrative work of government officials and strengthen public service delivery for citizens and private business operators.
