Laos celebrates Vietnam’s 80th National Day

Senior leaders of the Lao Party and government gathered at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane on September 2 to watch a live broadcast of a parade in Hanoi celebrating the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.
The ceremony in Hanoi was attended by Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, reflecting the close ties between the two countries.
September 2, 1945, the day Vietnam declared independence at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, was described as a “brilliant moment” in the nation’s history.
The commemorative event in Vientiane was attended by Deputy Prime Minister General Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Committee, Mr Khamphanh Pheuyavong.
Other deputy ministers, leaders from Party and state organisations, staff from the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese business associations, Vietnamese citizens living in Laos, and students also attended the event.
In a statement provided to the Pasaxon newspaper, Chargé d’Affaires at the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos, Mr Phan Minh Chien, said the broadcast and exhibition in Vientiane aimed to strengthen the bonds between the peoples of the two countries, while informing the younger generation about Vietnam’s revolutionary tradition and the sacrifices made for independence.
To highlight the occasion, more than 80 photographs were displayed under the theme “Memories of Laos-Vietnam Relations, Historical Milestones, and Vietnam’s Achievements over the Past 80 Years”.
The exhibition retraced the shared struggles of the two countries, especially their fight against common enemies, and showcased their continuing cooperation in national development and protection.
Vietnam’s progress since its independence was also highlighted, with emphasis on achievements in modernisation, green growth, and the improvement of people’s living standards.
Political stability, defence, and foreign relations have also strengthened, giving Vietnam greater influence in regional and international affairs.
The Lao government and people offered their warm congratulations, saying that Vietnam’s victories and development over the past 80 years serve as an inspiration and strong encouragement for Laos on its path towards building and protecting the nation under socialism.
