Laos, Kazakhstan strengthen ties in judicial prosecution
 
The governments of Laos and Kazakhstan have agreed to strengthen cooperation between their prosecutorial institutions, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Astana on September 3.
The agreement was signed during a state visit to Kazakhstan by President Thongloun Sisoulith, providing a framework and foundation for effective cooperation between the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Laos and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan.
The agreement was signed by the President of Laos’ Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor, Mrs Livong Laoly, and the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Berik Asylov.
According to a press release, the MoU reflects the commitment of both sides to strengthening mutual understanding, trust and relations between their respective prosecutorial institutions.
Under the agreement, the two sides will promote cooperation within their respective mandates and in accordance with the laws of each country.
Areas of cooperation will include reciprocal visits by government delegations, the sharing of experiences and good practices in prosecutorial work, and cooperation in criminal matters and extradition.
The two sides will organise meetings, consultations and seminars, while promoting education, training and human resource development.
They will exchange documents, publications and professional information, along with pursuing other forms of cooperation as mutually agreed.
Cooperation will be based on mutual respect, voluntariness and appropriateness, while taking into account the actual conditions of each side, with the aim of ensuring substantive cooperation and delivering tangible benefits to both institutions.
The agreement is an important milestone in relations between the prosecutorial institutions of Laos and Kazakhstan.
It provides a foundation for the two sides to deepen mutual understanding, share their experiences, and strengthen the capacity of their respective institutions.
The agreement is also expected to contribute to the continued strengthening of friendly relations and cooperation between Laos and Kazakhstan and to further develop their ties in a closer and more substantive manner in the years ahead.
