Defence ministry awards contracts for infrastructure projects

The General Staff Department of the Lao People’s Army has signed contracts for the construction of national defence and security roads, defence works, and military unit access roads across the country.
The signing of the contracts was supervised by Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army,Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith.
Deputy Head of the Bridge and Road Division of the General Staff’s Engineering Department,Lieutenant Colonel Soulasack Phiphatphon, presented the relevant legal documents and terms of the contracts.
The Ministry of National Defence has awarded contracts for 11 projects to construction companies as follows:
The Sikeoho village–tri-border marker and two airstrips project in Phongsaly province.
The road breakthrough and gravel upgrade project from Namsiem to Namka village in Phaxay district, Xiengkhouang province.
The Lao-Thai border road breakthrough and upgrade project, covering the Chongmek border checkpoint to the Lao-Thai border at Huayton in Champasak province.
The Route 44 road breakthrough and survey-design project, from Xay district to Ano village in La district, Oudomxay province. The Laos-Cambodia border road breakthrough and upgrade project, from border marker 34 to the Nongnokkhian border checkpoint in Khong district, Champasak province. The strategic road repair, expansion and upgrade project from Company 124 to Phadaeng and Phadai in Paktha district, Bokeo province. The tactical and martial arts training field construction project for Special Forces School 303.
The concrete road and internal paved road construction project for Engineering Company 51. The Namhoung Bridge construction project for the 2nd Division and the Namtien Bridge to Battalion 422 project and Phase II of the concrete road and concrete yard construction project for Machinery Depot II.
The double-surface treatment asphalt road construction project around and inside the Battalion 511 barracks. Representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the contracted companies signed the agreements.
The projects are intended to improve strategic and operational infrastructure for the Lao People’s Army.
According to the ministry, the construction programme will help to strengthen national defence capabilities and improve coordination between defence and security forces, particularly in support of efforts to maintain security along the country’s borders.
