PM addresses global call on Summit of the Future

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on Thursday expressed the hope that the upcoming Summit of the Future will pave the way for international cooperation in the years to come.

He made the remarks while participating in a global call on video to promote the Summit of the Future, which will be held in New York in the USA during September 22-23.
The Prime Minister spoke from his office in Vientiane and the video of his speech was featured on the UN Web TV on September 12. The global call was initiated with a video by the President of Namibia. The Prime Minister of Germany is the coordinator and there will be speeches  by presidents and heads of governments of the members of the UN.
In his speech, Mr Sonexay offered a high evaluation of the Summit of the Future and underlined its importance in facing global challenges. He requested every organisation to show solidarity and to support the mechanism to enhance cooperation to ensure a strong and just world order. The UN is the main body that is useful to every country and very person around the world. 
He said an “international agreement for the future” will clear the way for peaceful and sustainable development in the future, and create a mechanism for cooperation to tackle big challenges in many parts of the world. It will also enable political and economic cooperation, help the development of technology, ensure the sustainability of the environment, and guarantee a good future for the coming generations. It will also help achieve the UN’s sustainable development goals by 2030.
The Prime Minister said that Laos will support the work on the international agreement for the future to make it effective.
