The villages of Naliew, Nasakang, Nathongchong, Samneua, Nanongbua, and Poung were named by the provincial television station as being flooded over the weekend.
The extent of the damage is currently being assessed. The floodwater and river levels are now receding, but more rain is predicted for many places.
Those in need of urgent assistance in flooded areas are advised to contact the provincial or district Natural Disaster Monitoring Committee.
Meanwhile, local officials are arranging temporary accommodation for those whose houses have been flooded, as well as providing household essentials such as dried food and other supplies.
On Monday the Meteorology and Hydrology Department forecast light to moderate rain for all parts of Laos, with heavy rain and storms predicted in some areas.
The department warns all those living alongside the Mekong River and its tributaries, as well people in low-lying areas, to prepare for possible flooding this week and advises everyone to keep track of forecasts through newspapers, radio and television, or visit the Meteorology and Hydrology Department’s Facebook page and prepare for extreme conditions if necessary.
