Laos, Cuba supreme prosecutors strengthen ties

Lao and Cuban supreme prosecutors have agreed to work together to deepen ties in the coming years as part of the boarder effort to enhance relations between the two countries.
The agreement was reached during talks between the President of the Supreme People´s Prosecutor Office of Laos, Mr Xaysana Khotphouthone, and his Cuban counterpart, Mrs Yamila Pena Ojeda.
Mrs Ojeda, who is a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, led a delegation on an official working visit to Laos, according to the Lao News Agency.
During the talks, Mr Xaysana, who is a member of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, said he highly valued the fruitful cooperation between the two supreme prosecutor offices.
The two sides reviewed the achievements made in fulfilling a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two parties in Cuba in 2018. For her part, Mrs Ojeda thanked her counterpart for the invitation to visit Laos and the warm hospitality extended to her delegation.
After the talks, the two sides signed an MOU outlining cooperation activities for 2025-2026. They include reciprocal visits by delegations from Laos and Cuba, and videoconferences to share lessons learnt and information related to efforts to combat cybercrime, human trafficking and more.
On Monday, Mrs Ojeda called on Party Secretary General and President Thongloun Sisoulith.
The Lao leader issued a warm welcome and said he greatly appreciated the visit by the Chief Prosecutor of Cuba and her team to Laos, saying it was an important step in fostering friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The head of the Supreme Prosecutor Office of Cuba expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome given by the Secretary General. She also briefed the Lao leader on the current state of cooperation between the Lao and Cuban Supreme Prosecutor Offices.
