Fact-finding committee formed to investigate deadly fighter jet crash

The Ministry of National Defence has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate and establish the cause of the crash of a fighter jet on Friday that resulted in the death of two pilots.
The panel, headed by Major General Pasith Thiengtham, will travel to the crash site, where the Lao People’s Army’s combat jet hit a pond located near the airport of northern Xieng Khuang province.
The Yak 130 jet, which had taken off from the capital Vientiane on an exercise mission, entered the airspace of the province, and video clips showed the aircraft hurtling downward and hitting the water.
“The findings of the investigation will be notified later,” the defence ministry said in an announcement published by the Lao People’s Army’s newspaper.
The remains of the two pilots, Captain Khammai Setkhamchanh and Captain Keota Bouttayavong, were recovered from the debris of the jet.
