Nam Pien Yorla Pa opens biodiversity museum as ASEAN Summits get underway

The Nam Pien Yorla Pa park and leisure resort in Pakngum district, Vientiane, is hoping to attract delegates attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits taking place in Vientiane from October 8-11 after opening a biodiversity museum on Saturday.

Dr Athsphangthong Siphandone, Dr Linkham Douangsavanh and other senior government officials take part in the opening ceremony of the Nam Pien Yorla Pa museum on Saturday.

As Laos is the chair of ASEAN this year, the country is playing host to hundreds of delegates attending the summits and related meetings, while also rolling out the Visit Laos Year 2024 programme.
Those taking part in the opening ceremony of the museum included the Mayor of Vientiane, Dr Athsphangthong Siphandone, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr Linkham Douangsavanh, other ministers, deputy ministers, and senior government officials.
The developer of Nam Pien Yorla Pa, Mr Somphet Maopaseuth, said the nature resort was built to foster interest in environmental protection as well as serve as a tourist attraction.
The development of tourism is a top priority for the government and is viewed as a strong contributor to the country’s social and economic development.
The resort protects a forested area and sustains biodiversity, and the developer hopes it will spark a greater interest in the natural environment and become a major public attraction in the Lao capital. It counts as one of the 26 national protected forest areas in Laos.
The resort is also a place for the study of nature and ecological systems, with the aim of encouraging the younger generation to get firsthand experience of the natural world and understand the importance of environmental protection.
Its operations also aim to fulfil the government’s green and sustainable development policy, the forestry protection strategy to 2035, and support social and economic development plans.
This resort is advertised as “Serene Nature Meets Adventure for a Wholesome Rainforest Getaway Hugged by the Wilderness”, with visitors promised a day of thrilling adventures that make for a satisfyingly magical experience deep in this protected rainforest.
“The park is hot and wet so has tropical total rainforest vibes for staying in or exploring, while the whole jungle brings its A-game, from saturated colours, lavish foliage in full bloom, splendid wildlife, to raging rivers and waterfalls”, the advertising brochure reads.
The biodiversity museum comprises the reptile, aquatic, birds, crops and other animals.

The financial commitment to Nam Pien Yorla Pa was made in 2018, after which the construction of facilities took place and the park opened to the public in 2020.
