President meets with French and Vietnamese counterparts to strengthen bilateral relations

President Thongloun Sisoulith met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese President To Lam in Paris, France, as part of his state visit on the occasion of the 19th Francophonie Summit.

The meeting with President Macron allowed the two heads of state to recall the historic relationship between Laos and France and discuss ongoing bilateral projects in health, education, culture, agriculture, energy transition and sustainable development.
Together, the two heads of state last week discussed issues of common concern for Laos and France, particularly concerning the development of renewable energy and climate change mitigation, highlighting the Southeast Asian country’s role in promoting regional stability and peace as a member of ASEAN.
President Macron reiterated France’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Laos, focusing on economic cooperation and cultural preservation.
On this occasion, President Thougloun expressed his deep gratitude to President Macron for inviting the Lao delegation to participate in the 19th Francophonie Summit hosted by France, a key meeting to promote the development and use of the French language worldwide.
President Thougloun congratulated France for successfully hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and for its important contributions to promoting friendship.
During the 19th Francophonie Summit, President Thongloun met with President Lam, with the two heads of state discussing the outcomes of a recent state visit to Vietnam by a Lao delegation led by President Thongloun, as well as a meeting between the political bureaus of the two countries.
At the meeting, the Lao and Vietnamese presidents expressed appreciation for the strengthening of friendship and unity between the two parties, the two states and the people of Laos and Vietnam.
Both parties unanimously agreed that each respective government, as well as the relevant ministries, sectors, and localities, would implement the outcomes of the state visit and the meeting of the two political bureaus, especially in the implementation of important projects that were adopted.
Discussing the recent floods in Laos, President Thongloun, on behalf of the Party, the State, the National Assembly, the Army and the people of Laos, expressed gratitude and appreciation to Vietnamese counterparts for their efforts to assist flood victims, particularly to President Lam who sent a telegram of sympathy at the time.
