President to visit Azerbaijan

President Thongloun Sisoulith will pay an official visit to Azerbaijan on October 13-14 and attend a regional summit in Baku to discuss peace, security and cooperation in Asia.
The leader will lead a high-level Lao delegation on the visit at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Following engagements scheduled over the two days, the President will attend the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, scheduled for October 15-16 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The summit will bring together regional leaders to reaffirm their commitment to dialogue, mutual trust and constructive cooperation. According to the CICA website, the meeting will provide a platform to strengthen confidence-building measures and promote peace, security, stability and sustainable development across Asia.
Established as an initiative proposed by Kazakhstan in 1992, the CICA is a multilateral forum that seeks to improve cooperation among Asian countries through dialogue and confidence-building measures. It covers a range of areas, including economic cooperation, environmental protection, humanitarian issues, and military and political affairs.
The forum has 28 member states, while Laos holds observer status. Its members make decisions by consensus, with the aim of building trust and fostering peaceful relations among countries.
